HOUSTON — Apple said it will begin producing some Mac mini desktop computers at a new factory on its Houston manufacturing site later this year, marking the first time the company will make the model in the United States, Feb. 24, 2026.

The company said it is expanding its Houston operations to add Mac mini production, increase output of advanced AI servers and open an Advanced Manufacturing Center for hands-on training later this year. The aforementioned company said the expansion will double the campus’s footprint and create “thousands of jobs.”

“Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing, and we’re proud to significantly expand our footprint in Houston with the production of Mac mini starting later this year,” CEO Tim Cook said in a statement.

Apple did not disclose how many Mac minis it plans to produce in Texas. The company currently makes the Mac mini in Asia, and the new U.S. production is expected to cover only part of demand.

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump has pressed major manufacturers to shift more production to the United States. As his administration continues to pursue new import taxes after the Supreme Court struck down many of his sweeping tariffs. Trump has said he will raise a temporary global tariff rate from 10% to 15% following the ruling.

Apple has promoted the Houston expansion as part of a broader U.S. investment push. The company previously said it increased its U.S. commitment to $600 billion over four years.

Mac mini is a small part of Apple’s overall Mac business, accounting for less than 1% of total company sales and under 5% of Mac sales, according to The Verge.
