MANILA, Philippines — TELUS Digital said it is investigating a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to a limited number of its systems, following reports of a large-scale data breach allegedly linked to a threat actor group.
The company confirmed the incident in a statement to technology news site BleepingComputer, saying it acted immediately to contain the intrusion and secure affected systems.
“TELUS Digital is investigating a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to a limited number of our systems. Upon discovery, we took immediate steps to address the unauthorized activity and secure our systems against further intrusion. We are actively managing the situation and continue to monitor it closely,” the company said.
A report by BleepingComputer, written by Lawrence Abrams, said the breach has been attributed to the hacking group ShinyHunters, which allegedly carried out a months-long cyberattack targeting TELUS Digital’s systems.
The group claimed to have stolen nearly 1 petabyte of data, a volume that, if confirmed, would mark one of the largest reported data exfiltration incidents involving a business process outsourcing provider.
According to the report, the stolen data may include customer information tied to TELUS Digital’s BPO operations as well as call records from its consumer telecommunications services.
TELUS Digital has not confirmed the scale of the breach or the specific data involved, emphasizing that only a limited number of systems were affected and that its investigation is ongoing.
Cybersecurity analysts said incidents involving outsourcing firms can carry broader risks because such companies often handle large volumes of third-party and customer data across multiple clients and industries.
The reported breach highlights ongoing concerns about data governance, client confidentiality and cyber resilience in the BPO sector, particularly as companies expand digital operations and remote service delivery.
TELUS Digital said it continues to monitor the situation as it works to determine the scope and impact of the incident.
